The small island nation of Lavonia, which is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, was under the terrible reign of the evil dictator, Carlos Sanchez. With the sweat, tears, and blood of many brave men and women, he was overthrown and killed. With that, a good and just government was established.
Ten years later, wizards come out of hiding and begin to practice their craft openly. A school of magic was built and many students came to learn the craft of magic. Brinnena Woodcutter (you) is a girl of great ability and promise. She came in the hopes of becoming a great wizard.
However, the new government did not stay so good and just. The leaders of Lavonia came up with this “bright” idea that everyone should wear shoes, at all times, and that bare feet are somehow bad and wrong. Worse, they turn their backs on the fact that all of the major corporations that manufacture shoes use slave labor. It costs about 5 dollars to make a pair of shoes, and yet, most shoes cost at least 150 dollars or more. In addition, many innocent men from all over the world are kidnapped and forced to work as slaves in awful shoes factories where brand name shoes are made and shipped all over the world. Men by the 1000s disappear each year and many of them die in those awful shoe factories.
Brinnena refuses to wear shoes, at all, in protest to this evil. Her friends start to call her “Barefoot Brinnena”. Other students go barefoot in support of her. The leaders of Lavonia become so enraged over all of this, that they demand the student of the school wear shoes. Otherwise, they will use the military to attack and shut the school down.
The president of Lavonia is willing to use his power to strike down all the laws that require people to wear shoes, even through this will make him many bitter enemies who will hate him and want to kill him. But, before he is willing to do this, he wants a priceless sai that has been in his family for many generations returned to him. The weapon was lost hundreds of years ago and is said to be the ruins of a stronghold where men how fought pirates lived.
The man who owned the sai was a Japanese ninja who joined the fighters of pirates. These men killed many pirates and rescued people who the pirates kidnapped. The ninja was a man of great honor and he is one of the fore fathers of the president. If the president can get the sai back, he will be so honored and touched that he will do anything for the person who gets that weapon back…. So off goes Brinnena into the old ruins!
